Intel Wifi device slow

i have a new laptop and installed Xubuntu 18.04 (Bionic). Everything works, but one thing: The Intel wifi module [8086:2526] is dog slow (max. ~2.5 Mbps). I measured that within the LAN and to the internet which makes no difference. I have several devices in the WLAN and none of them has the same problem. A search delivered the following hint:

I did both suggestions in the link (disable powersafe and set 11n_disable=8). It was not entirely useless: Before making the changes, the device worked slow on the 11A (2.4GHz), but was completely useless on 11B/G (5GHz). Now it is slow on both frequencies. Does anyone recognize this problem. I see that there are a lot of problems with Intel Wifi, but have not found a better hint so far. Any suggestion welcome. Many thanks.
