Kali Linux graphics start breaking/lagging after 'apt-get dist-upgrade'

I have installed kali Linux on my HDD and I immediately ran an apt-get dist-upgrade to update kali Linux. After the update finished installing I noticed that kali became very laggy e.g. the best way I can describe it is frame drop. Basically opening and closing windows becomes very laggy. Before the update everything was working very smoothly; windows and everything opened and closed with no lag at all. I should add that Windows 10 which definitely requires more fire power works perfectly (I'm not talking about tools like John - just graphics over all). I also tried installing the weekly build version of kali Linux and it came with the issues out of the box that the official release one only had after the apt-get dist-upgrade.

I will add my PC specs if it helps:

  • Graphics: intel(R) HD Graphics 4400
  • Processor: intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4170 CPU @ 3.70 GHz
  • RAM: 8GB
  • System type: 64-bit

I also install Kali Linux in UEFI mode if that matters.

So what I'm looking for is someone to tell me if there might be a bug in the distro or if the problem are my drivers I don't believe however that there are problems with my drivers because if I look in the Settings and device info it says 'Graphics: intel(R) Haswell' or something like that from what I can remember. If it is possible I would also like if someone could guide me through the process of fixing this problem if the problem is caused by the drivers or maybe removing the package that is causing these issues if there is a bug in kali.
