Is low variance common with FAMD or other data dimension techniques with categorical variables?

I'm using the FAMD(factor analysis for categorical and numerical variables) function from the FactoMineR package in R. The cumulative variance of my first 4 dimensions is very small. The first 4 dimensions only explain 13% of the variance. My data set has 101 categorical variables and 4 numeric variables. Is this type of low variance common when doing factor analysis with categorical variables?
