Task for OpenStack beginner, where to start?

I would like to start learning OpenStack. A little bit of my background: VMWare, SAN infrastructure, Cisco CCNA, MCSA, basic Linux knowledge, rarely worked with bash scripts. Can understand and modify PS scripts, but don't write them.

I was given a task to set up an OpenStack with KVM and VMs which are on different VLANs. I was asked to spin up a few machines with Windows 2003 through 2016 and domain controller, although I saw 2016 is not supported.

Of course, since I am not Linux advanced user, is there something I should pay attention to? And how different are networking and other concepts on KVM comparing to ESXi, should I look for similarities? Where do I start? Is there any more prerequisites I need in order to figure out OpenStack?
