Error E5 and E4 on Canon Autoboy ZoomSuper keeps Appearing

So I got this old film camera: the Canon Autoboy Zoom Super that was given to me. I bought a fresh pack of batteries and a roll of film to try it out. But after every click, error E8 flashes, then I would have to take the battery out and put it back. When I press it again, E4 flashes and i would have to turn the camera on and off, and then the film counter would eventually go. I don't know if it actually took pictures since I've lost patience on this. Before I get it checked out at a repair shop (since it's quite far from here), are there anything I can do at home? I've acquired a pdf of the camera manual but it just said to replace the batteries, which I did but the same errors kept appearing.
