How come micro SD cards seems cheaper than regular SD cards?

Previously you always paid a premium for the producer to make electronics smaller. Now it seems like I can get a micro SD card cheaper than a regular SD card. As an example the Sandisk extreme pro micro SD is cheaper than the Sandisk extreme pro SD card for the same amount of memory and with the specs seeming identical.

Is it just because they produce more of the micro that they can make them cheaper due to larger scale of production? If that’s the case why shouldn’t I just buy a micro SD and put into a micro SD to SD adapter and put in my DSLR? Is there a disadvantage to using the micro SD with adapter instead of just regular SD cards?
