How SKTileMapNode size impacts game?

Despite already having some experience with mobile dev and swift, I am now trying to learn spritekit for some gamedev.

I decide to start trying some map creation, with SKTileMapNode, while learning the basics.

I'd like to know, how the size and number of columns and rows impact the game?

It's just visually? Like, do I have to have a different size from each device screen? There is some pattern or common numbers to follow based on different game types, map types? The sizes here have to match the sizes of the images of the tiles?
